General Information About Joining the Game -
The Hellmouth Alliance is always open to new players from all gaming and writing backgrounds. The only restrictions to joining are that you play nice with others, are able to more or less post at least once every three days (announced absences are of course not a problem - see Rules for full details) and of course have fun.

Even though the game has a long history, it is not the case that you are required to read through all the backposts to figure out what is going on. While the archives are a fabulous read, any relevant information that you might need for your character that is not already available on this site will be provided by the GM as soon as you are approved for your character. If there are relevant messages that need to be read for your character, you will also be provided with those message numbers.

You'll be given any time you need to get acquainted with things and certainly don't need to worry about making mistakes as you start out. As a new player to the game you're obviously not responsible for knowing everything there is to know about the game. If you write some things that don't fit your fellow players will politely let you know and the post can easily corrected.

Are You New to the Buffyverse?
While it of course helps, you don't have to be knowledgeable in the Buffyverse to join. The verse's rules are very straightforward. If you're new to the verse just mention that fact when you join and the few rules that you'll need to know will be provided and as long as you're bringing in an original character you don't need to be familiar with the history of the series to get started.

Are You New to RPG?
If you're a fan of the Buffyverse, but new to role-playing that's not a problem either. We have a very supportive group of players here who love to help knew folks get started. As with being new to the verse, just let us know that you're new to RPG and any information you might need to get started into RPing will be provided. Of course just ask if you have any specific questions about how things work.

Where the Game is Played and How to Sign Up -
This game is a writing based PbEM (played by email/game board not real-time chat) run on a Yahoo! Groups board. If you do not already have a Yahoo! account you will need one to subscribe to the game, but signing up is free and easy. If you need any assistance subscribing to the group or have any questions about how Yahoo! Groups works, just ask.

There is an in character (IC) and out of character (OOC) board. Please join both. The IC is for in character play only where as the OOC is for out of character discussions, announcements and plotting. Click here to join the IC board and here for the OOC.

General Information About Selecting a Character
All you really need to get going in the game is to decide what character you would like to play. We of course like to have the roles of as many canons as possible filled but original characters are also welcomed and encouraged.

Canon Characters -
As of 05/17/2008 currently available canon characters include:
Amy, Caleb, Chao-Ann, Claire, Darla, Doyle, Glory, Groo, Gunn, Harmony, Holtz, Jonathan, Kate, Knox, The First, The Immortal, The Master, Travers,

Click on any of the above names for more information about the character. If you would like to play a canon character that is not listed, please make that desire known. Characters become available and if you wish, you can be contacted when a particular character does become open. Also, if you have chosen a relatively minor character, he or she may simply not be listed.

Creating an Original Character -
If you're coming into things with a favorite original character, that'll work great. For the most part any and all original types can be worked into the game. In that case please just read over the Rules for the few restrictions that do apply to original characters and then fill out a new original character request form.

Adopting an Already Created Original Character -
Additionally there are some original characters who are available for adoptions. Below is a list of those original characters that we are most looking to find new players for because they are an active part of an organization, involved with someone or would be a great addition to a current plot.

Samantha - Sent as Ava's replacement; recently returned from London where she was trying to plead Giles's case to the Council Human)

Spencer - Possesses the power of a 'soul healing' witch that he is a reincarnation of; though he hasn't yet fully realized it, he has again found his soul mate in the form of Ezra. Human)

Susan - Student at UCLA who is interning at W&H; wants to be a model but her parents are paying for school; tentatively involved with Knox. Human)
