Name - Huitzilopochtli, ‘Huitzil’

He possesses no true name but takes on various names given to him by people of the worlds he takes interest in. On this world he has taken the names Esus and Huitzilopochtli, the latter being his preference. With the passing of the Aztec kingdom and the loss of the use of their language he has found Huitzil to be an abbreviated form that most earthly beings could better manage.

Age - Unknown – he is immortal in his non-corporeal form

Apparent Age - Varies with the form he takes though his preferred form on earth is one of a man in his late twenties

Appearance -
Also variable. He has no inherent physical form, though he does have one that he tends to use as a default on this world. It’s that of a the man that was his first Aztecan follower and sacrifice who in many ways was responsible for his being able to raise the image of Huitzilopochtli up to its designation of high god.

In that form his skin has a fairly dark complexion, nearly black eyes and even blacker, wavy hair. His height and weight are fairly average, if anything he’s a bit on the short side. He tends to dress in the local business attire and all in all there is nothing about his form that would tend to draw attention to him.

He seems unassuming and curious and in average dealings does not in anyway make his true identity apparent though if pressed to do so he will more than happily make any displays necessary to confirm to doubters just where his reputation as a god comes from. When not in his default physical form, he can take on any number of mimicked physical forms. See abilities for more details.

Personality -
More than anything Huitzil’s objective is exploration. While he looks down on humans in nearly every possible way, part of him is fascinated by their inconsistencies and merely by the fact that they’ve managed to survival at all. He finds humans to be of interest more than any other physical being and takes every opportunity to feed off their thirst for violence. However, its their capacity for love that he finds to be unique from many other physical beings and perplexing to no end. In many ways he admires them at the very same moment that he is condemning them.

When taking on a human essence he is able to experience their emotions and limited, distinctive worldviews. While he meddles in their lives he tries to understand them. Given that he has no true purpose for interfering on the physical plane he is like a trickster in many respects and does enjoy simply stirring up trouble and playing the role of a puppet master. He’s not a particularly significant being in his non-corporeal form but when he deals with mortals he craves their worship and for that reason spends a great deal of his time in corporeal form despite how limited his powers are in that state.

Abilities -
When in his native, non-corporeal form, Huitzil has many abilities that would suggest that he is a god. He is for all intensive purposes omnipotent and is very capable of affecting many portions of this plane’s physical reality without any real difficulty. When all his power is accessible he can seemingly bring things in and out of existence, has powers over souls and the ability to mimic selected souls in the ethereal realm.

Specifically he can banish souls from this world, imprisoning them in a purgatory of sorts, and in doing so gains a connection to any who may try to refute his claim on that soul. Should someone attempt a ritual to retrieve a soul he has taken, he is able to enter that practitioner performing the ritual as is he able to enter any other physical entity that either consciously or unwittingly invites him in.

When he is invited into a mortal form he is able to make a complete copy of their essence, consume it or both depending on his desired purpose. In this way he can take the energy from sacrifices or take a form that will allow him to gain new sacrifices. He does not require physical sacrifices to survive, but the more he takes, the more energy he has in reserve to alter the physical world and the more choices of appearances/specific knowledge he possesses.

In copying the essence of an individual he is able to mimic not only their exact physical form, but every possible aspect of them. He has access to everything that individual knew up until the point that he copied their essence, has their voice and movement patterns and is able to mimic their spiritual signature. It’s a nearly flawless copy that can only be detected by a very small number of highly scent dependent demons.

Whenever he takes on a specific essence, none of the powers that he enjoys in non-corporeal form are available to him. While he can revert to his native state at any time (meaning that he's not vulnerable to a physical death), when he takes a corporeal form he is bound by all other physical laws and can only interact on a strictly physical level. In that he has only the abilities of the form he has chosen to take.

He can only in a chosen form retrieve information via standard means – as in he has to ask or look it up rather than simply knowing. A very limited amount of his omnipotent knowledge carries over to a chosen form and the longer he remains in physical form the less of his otherwise inherent knowledge he can remember. He also is increasingly affected by an essence the longer he wears it and if he was somehow trapped to a particular essence he would theoretically eventually revert to more or less becoming that essence with no memory of what he truly was.

History -
Huitzil had previously played in the affairs of other worlds, but his first interaction with earth and humans was in a partnership with two other like beings. While in their true form they carried no names, on earth they took the names of Esus, Taranus and Teutates. In these forms they became what the humans that worshiped them would term as gods.

Under the guise of Esus, Huitzil began his exploration of the peculiarities of humanity, finding an odd sort of interest there. It was rare that he would ever interact directly with the humans, but he watched them and more than observing came to find away in which to feed off the energy associated with the sacrifices of humans made to his taken name.

He had not previously been aware of humans and like those who had partnered with him in the endeavor had immediately written them off as nothing outside of an energy source. However, as he became more familiar with them, his interest grew and it was not long before his interest as the guise Esus parted ways with Taranus and Teutates. Likewise was the human civilization they had taken hostage changing and he soon parted ways with his partners and looked for more fertile grounds of worship.

Some time later he took interest in a far more violent civilization, the Aztecs and it was not long after his appearance to their empire that he attracted the attention of one man that soon led him to many more. It took few displays of his power for him to gain the devotion of many and as his legend built he had no shortage of sacrifices being made to his name. He remained involved with the Aztecs until their eventual fall at which point he left earth.

For him it was an unrecognizable amount of time, but for the earth, centuries would pass before his return. He eventually resurfaced in California, finding a very different world awaiting him – one that was not nearly so enamored with the thoughts of individual deities. As disappointed as he was with the turn things had taken, he was still far too interested in humans to simply move on to a different world entirely.

He began dabbling in random affairs and in that became involved with a number of powerful and less powerful demons. One such being was Kurt Raeder. Kurt came to him with a business proposition of sorts and thus began their working relationship. He assisted Kurt in manipulating some humans into necessary positions and his primary involvement was the removal of the souls from two vampires – Angel and Darla.

Trapping their souls outside of this world, he finally received the opening that he had been waiting for as a human, Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, performed a ritual to reclaim one of those souls. Unbeknownst to Wesley, Huitzil now wears his essence and is dabbling with a new group of humans, those at Angel Investigations.
